Jihad Baydoun, a Lebanese Man Who Fell in Love with Indonesia

By Hamid Nabhan

With his humble appearance, warm smile, and down-to-earth demeanor, Jihad Baydoun is a Lebanese citizen who has made it a point to visit Indonesia every year. Aside from managing his business in publishing religious books for Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia, he is the owner of Darul Kutub Ilmiah (DKI), a printing and publishing house inherited from his father. Beyond business, he has fallen deeply in love with Indonesia, having visited the country over 13 times. The only year he couldn't make it was 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Born on August 16th, a Leo by zodiac sign, Jihad has a deep appreciation for Indonesia's natural beauty and a passion for tropical fruits like rambutan, longan, mangosteen, and especially durian, his favorite fruit. Jihad Baydoun often goes out of his way to help the Indonesian community. In his business dealings, he refrains from excessive profit-taking, ensuring that students from pesantren can afford his books. "I do all this because of my love for this country," he says.

He hopes that in the years to come, he will remain healthy and be able to return to this beautiful country once again.
